“Listen, are you breathing just a little, and calling it a life?”
-Mary Oliver
Moving toward wholeness
In moving toward wholeness, each session is catered to the specific needs and uniqueness of the client. Some clients will experience the session in a traditional talk therapy manner with attention to the breath or body’s sensations as a way of listening deeper to one’s emotions while, at the same time, learning skills to regulate and soothe the nervous system. Other clients may be interested in more somatic work and deepening self-awareness through sensing into the body and its emotional landscape. Working somatically can be a helpful approach in healing trauma that may be stored in the body and need a more subtle approach than talk therapy. Dance therapy can be helpful for those who wish to explore self-expression and layers of the unconscious self through movement, imagery, and memory. This could include the practice of Authentic Movement in which the therapist is the witness as the client allows themselves to be moved by the body, listening to its story, gestures, or dynamics that will be explored in the session. The goal of therapy is for you to find authentic expression, live more deeply into your values, and expand into fullest potential.
Meet Katherine
I work with individuals and couples who seek to carve out a path of hope and newly imagined potential for themselves. Whether you are moving through a transition, trauma, loss, or just wanting to feel “unstuck”, I accompany my clients through the muddy waters of emotions and life circumstances toward greater clarity and new possibilities, finding a full version of self.
Attuning to your well of intuition and finding a sense of direction within your dreams is what we can work toward together. I use tools of somatic mindfulness, self-compassion, cognitive behavioral techniques, and value-centered ways of being. I am a Registered Dance Movement Therapist and often draw from embodied practices to help clients further their body-mind connection, finding a sense of home in one’s skin and allowing the body to express emotion deeper than words. I have worked with children through older adults for 15 years and enjoy helping couples and family systems understand each other while focusing on the self-actualization of each individual.
“Katherine has an uncanny ability to find your pain and help you work through issues. She has a gift for listening and guiding the conversation.”
